Our member's influences and backgrounds
Amara Lin:
Amara Lin is a singer/songwriter who grew up in the Bay Area. She’s been performing since the age of 3 and writing original music since she was 14. She’s worked in many musical contexts spanning over a plethora of genres including choral, rock, worship, and a cappella jazz. She is studying music and psychology working towards a music therapy degree. The release of her original music has just begun with many more projects in the works.
Asher Kauk:
Asher is a multi-instrumentalist who’s been playing guitar since 2013. He loves feel good music from the 70s and today. Artists like Jacob Collier, Dave Matthews, and Stevie Wonder really make him love music. “I’m excited to finally be playing with a talented group of musicians again.”
Ellis Shahin:
Ellis has been around music for as long as he can remember. He was introduced to jazz very early on by his father and is influenced by players like George Benson and Stevie Wonder. Also, multi instrumentalist artists like Luna Li and FKJ. His main instruments are the bass and vibraphone but he can also play drums and keys to a certain extent. “This band has helped break in my bass playing skills and opened a door for me to start pursuing music at a deeper level.”
Maya Bommelaere:
Maya has been playing drums for around 4 years. She has a strong passion for music and is currently working towards a career as an audio engineer. Her main influences are Nate Smith, Jason McGerr, Steve Gadd, and Stewart Copeland. She enjoys being a part of Silk Road as it helps her expand her repertoire and work with talented musicians.
Miguel Song:
Miguel started playing the piano around the age of 6 and has enjoyed playing in Silk Road since its original formation. Some of Miguel’s largest influences are Tom Misch, Charles Cornell, and Daniel Caesar. In addition to piano, he also enjoys playing the drums and messing around on the guitar.
Alana Lin:
Alana has been singing and performing for as long as she can remember, most often in a duet with her sister. Music is one of the many styles of art that Alana participates in, including her upcoming career as a welder. She has appreciated the opportunity to expand her musical horizons through being a member of Silk Road
